Arthritis Foundation Supports New Act That Ensures Treatment Access

Craig William Taylor, senior engineer and group leader for Genentech, Inc., is a dedicated member of his community. Craig William Taylor supports several community and charitable organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation.

Dedicated to supporting individuals living with arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation promotes research, spreads knowledge to the public, and advocates for individuals and families. Recently, the organization announced its support of new bipartisan legislation that ensures individuals affected by arthritis will have access to new, effective treatments. This legislation counteracts an increasing trend in the health insurance market that is moving important arthritis medications to specialty tiers, making them less affordable for patients.

Currently, cost-sharing responsibility requires that patients pay between 25 and 50 percent of their medication costs. The Patients’ Access to Treatments Act (PATA) of 2015, if passed, will limit the cost-sharing requirements for specialty tier medications, giving patients lower out-of-pocket expenses for important and innovative arthritis medications. Along with 32 other Coalition for Accessible Treatments members, the Arthritis Foundation encourages patients and physicians to support this act and ask lawmakers to co-sponsor.

No matter the season, your lawn and shrubbery require regular attention to remain in top condition. Here are a few tips for year-round lawn maintenance:

-In the spring, sparingly fertilize grass and apply a natural or chemical weed killer. Aerate and dethatch the lawn as needed.
-In the summer, water the grass in the morning. Soak the grass in about one inch of water weekly. As the summer heat increases, allow the grass to grow a bit longer between mowings to better withstand hot temperatures.
-In the fall, continue watering the grass until winter truly arrives. Begin overseeding in mid-October in mild climates, or in mid-September in cold-weather areas. Regularly rake leaves, as they breed disease and prevent grass from getting much-needed sunlight.
-In the winter, administer a light dose of nitrogen fertilizer late in the season so that lawns will remain green all winter long.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Celebrates 50th Anniversary

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, recognized nationwide as one of the most comprehensive pediatric cancer hospitals in the country, this year celebrates 50 years of research and treatment of children with cancer and other diseases. According to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, cancer ranks as the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States aged 14 and younger. With support and contributions from individuals around the country, including longtime supporter Craig William Taylor, St. Jude has helped children and their families cope with catastrophic illnesses in a loving and supportive environment.

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, St. Jude has implemented a number of initiatives to commemorate this milestone:

1. St. Jude is asking patients, families, volunteers, donors, doctors, and nurses to share their favorite St. Jude story.
2. The hospital is inviting everyone to participate in social networking and to join in the conversation regarding pediatric cancer.
3. St. Jude is presenting a challenge to supporters to help run St. Jude for 50 days, whether by donating monetarily or by donating a gift in tribute.

At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, every child is treated regardless of religion, race, or the family’s ability to pay for services.

Real-Time Strategy Computer Games

In the world of computer gaming, real-time strategy (RTS) refers to a type of game in which the player controls movable units and buildings with the intent of controlling a map and eliminating an opponent’s army. Although the genre existed as early as the 1980s, RTS truly grew to prominence in the late 1990s with the rise of game developer Blizzard Entertainment. Here is a list of some of the most famous RTS titles in recent years.

Starcraft: Released in 1998, Starcraft is considered by many to be the seminal title in the modern RTS genre. In the game, players control one of three races fighting to dominate the far reaches of the Milky Way. The Terrans, human exiles from Earth, are highly resourceful and capable of adapting to many unique situations. The insect-like Zerg genetically assimilate other races and produce large numbers of weaker units for use in combat. By far the most technologically advanced of the three races, the Protoss rely on expensive and powerful units in battle. Players gather resources to build armies and achieve technological advances while attempting to eliminate their opponent. Starcraft is one of the best-selling computer games of all time, having sold 11 million copies as of February 2009.

Warcraft III: This RTS title, released in 2002, built on the success of Starcraft four years before. Players control one of four races (Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, and the Undead), and they use special hero units to augment their armies. By including the hero unit, Blizzard Entertainment combined elements of traditional RTS games and more character-centered RPG (role-playing game) titles such as Diablo and the Final Fantasy series.

Starcraft II: The long-awaited sequel to the hit game Starcraft, Starcraft II first hit stores in July 2010. The game retains many of the same features as the original and includes a host of new units and buildings. Starcraft II also operates on a fully 3D engine and contains impressive graphics compared to the original. In just the first month after its release, Starcraft II sold more than 3 million copies.

A skilled chemical engineer with nearly 15 years of experience in his field, Craig William Taylor serves as Senior Data Systems Engineer at Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology firm based in Vacaville, California. Prior to stepping into his current role at the company, Craig William Taylor functioned in the capacity of Database Specialist and Engineer at Genentech, a position he maintained from September 1998 to September 2001. Craig William Taylor Reached 225 LinkedIN Connections!

On November 1, 2010 Craig William Taylor reached 225 connections.  It has been a long journey from when Craig first opened his LinkedIN account during the summer of 2010.  Although these connections are primarily from his work experience and companies he has done business with, Craig has been able to connect with people he has never met before.  Partway through the process Craig W. Taylor was found the networking groups in LinkedIN: LION500.com (Open Networkers), OpenNetworker.com and TopLinked.com (Open Networkers).  These networking groups allowed for additional connections to new people outside of Craig’s work experience.

Craig William Taylor’s connections primarily consist of people from the companies: Genentech, California ISO and OSIsoft.  Over Craig’s working life he has been employed as a database administrator and application developer for both Genentech and the California ISO interacting closely with software developed by OSIsoft.  The years of working with the OSIsoft programs has allowed Craig W. Taylor to forge many strong relationships with the entire OSIsoft company.
